NATÜRLICHE GOLD NUGGETS:
Als Nugget bezeichnet man einen Gold- oder Platinklumpen, der auf natürliche Weise entstanden ist. Nuggets kommen in Seifen vor und sind normalerweise staub- oder korngroß.
Das bisher größte Goldnugget wurde 1869 in Moliagul/Australien gefunden.

Den Begriff Nugget verwendet man bei sehr hohen Reinheitsgraden; in Australien gefundene Nuggets haben oftmals einen Reinheitsgrad von 95% – 99%.

Entstehung:
Nuggets entstehen durch die Erosion von goldführenden Mineralgängen. Gold ist chemisch sehr beständig, so dass durch Verwitterung und Transport in Bächen und Flüssen das umgebende Gestein oder der oft mit Gold zusammen auftretende Quarz entfernt werden, ohne dass das Gold zerfällt. Große Bereiche gediegenen Goldes, aus denen sich Nuggets bilden könnten, sind allerdings sehr selten, da das Gold im Erz meist fein verteilt vorkommt. Aus diesem Grund besteht der größte Teil von Goldlagerstätten, die durch die Verwitterung von goldführenden Erzen zustande kommt, aus feinen Goldteilchen.

NATURAL GOLD NUGGETS:
A nugget is a lump of gold or platinum which developed naturally. Nuggets occur in placers, and are normally the size of a grain of dust or a seed.
The largest gold nugget to date was found in 1869 in Moliagul, Australia.

The term nugget is used for very high degrees of purity; nuggets found in Australia often have a purity level of 95% – 99%.

Origin:
Nuggets are caused by the erosion of mineral veins carrying gold. Gold is very stable chemically, so when the surrounding rock or the quartz which often develops together with gold are removed by weathering or by being transported in streams and rivers, the gold does not disintegrate. However, large areas of pure gold from which nuggets might form are very rare, as the gold is usually very finely distributed in the ore. For this reason, the largest proportion of gold deposits created by the weathering of the ores which carry gold consists of fine gold particles.
